Redbridge Track - Tuesday 8 September

The summer track season concluded with an open meeting held at the Gloucester Redbridge track, hosted by Gloucester AC. With events from 75m to 3000m on the track, the CLC Striders were represented by Rob Burrows in the 800m, James Endicott in the mile and Joel Freeland and Karlien Heyrman in the 3000m.

Burrows finished a commendable 5th in the 800m in a time of 2:13.5. With his 400m result earlier in the season and road mile PB earlier in the year, Burrows is leading the charge in the sprint to middle distances.

Next to run was Endicott, who has been chasing the club age-group record in the mile for the last two season. Once again it was close but no celebration as he finished in 5:26.4, just outside the V45 record of 5:23.5. By his own admission, Endicott said that he’d benefit from doing some speed work.

Finally, to close out the evening of racing, Freeland and Heyrman raced the 3000m. Both athletes were running for target times and battled hard to finish within touching distance of their goals. Heyrman crossed the line in 11:33.5 and Freeland in 11:40.4.

With the nights drawing in, attention turns away from the track with the prospect of the cross country season starting in October. Meanwhile, the road racing calendar is as busy as ever with the CLC expecting a large participation in the Cheltenham Half Marathon and many other local and regional races.
