Meteor Mile - Friday 28 August 2026
Twenty-three Striders including two debutants lined up at a blustery Gloucestershire Airport on Friday evening for the Meteor Mile and the club put on an excellent show.
With all eyes on the runway windsock as the runners made their way to the start line, there was collective relief to see that the wind would be in the runners favour as they hurtled down the runway!
Pete Duffy led the Striders home in a superb 4:41 (a 1 second PB!) for third place overall for a second year running, with Max Harrison-Tosatto close behind in 4:51 and Gavin Woods in 4:52 (PB). Tom Burgess (4:57 PB) and Timothy Bridge (5:04 PB) kept the fast times coming, followed by Rob Burrows (5:06) Last year’s ladies winner and the course record holder going into the race, Isabel Brinsden, admitted she hadn’t touched mile pace since her victory at the Bourton Mile in May. Deep into training for her debut marathon in October she battled well to finish as second female in 5:10.
The times kept rolling in: Nick Ledwold (5:16 - PB), Richard Gill (5:19 - PB), Lee Ormerod (5:20 - PB), Luke Hunter (5:21 PB) all had superb runs. Unofficial 5:30 pacer Joel Freeland crossed the line in 5:29 with Tim Elliott and Alex Doherty both clocking 5:30 marginally behind. Adam Harrison followed in with 5:32 on his club debut.
Great runs too from Adam Greenwood (5:44), Liam Richardson (5:46 -PB) and Phil Adcock (5:53 - PB), while Arnie Delstanche, the fastest dinosaur in town (6:10 - PB) and Morwenna Suleiman (6:34 - PB) kept the Striders well represented. David James broke his MV75 club record with 7:18 and Andrew Jackson dug in for a solid finish in 7:31 in his first race for the club. Rachel Vines enjoyed the experience with her son and next generation Strider in years to come!
