Race recap - 12 and 13 September
On the weekend of the 12th and 13th September, CLC Striders were represented in four races across the country ranging from half marathons in Worcester, Newcastle upon Tyne and Burnham-on-Sea, to the Angels 10km in Ashleworth.
By far the most remarkable achievement was the Guinness World Record attempt by Alice Johnston and her three sons for the fastest combined time. Running in memory of their late husband and father, the quartet clocked a combined time of 6hrs and 27 minutes, erasing 1hr and 41 minutes from the previous mark of 8hrs, 8 minutes and 52 seconds. They used their challenge to raise funds for the people of Palestine, and furthermore, Alice set a new LV50 group record in the process with a magnificent 1:34:54. The club was also represented by Andy Richardson (1:29:31), Alex Doherty (1:33:28), Ellie Pudifoot (1:33:48), Helen Knight (1:33:57) and Jon Margetts (1:37:12).
In Newcastle upon Tyne, Eoin McQuone and Ash Wilson toed the line of the Great North Run, finishing the 45th running of the event since its inception in 1981. Ash ran 1:38:23 and Eoin 2:01:13 in his first race back from a long injury setback Rob Green raced in the Burnham-on-Sea Half Marathon, clocking 1:13:54 and finishing 9th overall and second in the male V40 category. In his first road race of 2026 the punishing humidity put paid to ambitions of a PB.
Closer to home in the undulating Angels 10km, the Striders were led home by Lee Ormerod in 15th place, followed by Hollie Freeland in 34th, David James in 45th and Colin Upton in 66th place. The Angels 10km was the 9th race in the Gloucester AAA Road Race Series. With three races to go, David is in a commanding lead in the male V75 category and Hollie leads the ladies V40 standings.
