Cotswold Way Relay 2021

« back   approx 1 min read.

When the world turned upside down in 2020, many of us in CLC Striders found solace/enjoyment/some sense of normality or freedom from running or walking in the countryside around Cheltenham, including the Cotswold Way.

This culminated in the Cotswold Way Challenge last June and then the virtual Cotswold Way Relay in July. But… it wasn’t quite the same… so it was with much enthusiasm and excitement that we signed up for the return of the real in person Cotswold Way Relay, entering a ladies, vet mens and mixed team.

As the day approached, the forecast looked pretty good – gone was the scorching heat of the last few years, and not even the scary midnight instructions for surviving lightning strikes or slightly temperamental timing app could dampen our spirits. 7am and leg one were off, closely followed by leg two, leg four, leg five, leg six, leg seven, leg eight 29 runners covered over 303 miles from Chipping Camden to Bath, and there were as ever some fab performances:

Overall, our ladies team finished second in 16.29.18 – our highest ever placing – our mixed team finished 32 of 50, and our vet men were 6 of 16. That’s a huge credit to the depth of quality we have in the club, and how much we love the hills in our local area. Well done also to Jon and Billy, newly crowned Kings of the Cotswolds and the first people to earn their crowns running exclusively for CLC Striders teams.
