Leamington Cross Country - 9th November 2013

« back   approx 3 mins read.

As the team of Striders travelled to Leamington conditions looked dire, however by the time the womens’race started at 1:30pm the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Recent rain had made the ground soft and muddy and the ditch was full of muddy water. The women completed two laps of the testing course which included a steep hill climb and descent and the dreaded ditch crossing.

Jo Wilkie got stuck in straight from the start and was not seen for dust finishing in 38thplace, her highest ever Midlands league score in 31 minutes dead. Helen Roberts started conservatively and gradually increased the pace to finish a very strong 56th in 31:55. Rachel Vines, Amanda Steer and Vicky Veness ran pretty much together the whole way round with Vines just managing to clinch the 3rdscorers spot in 78thplace (33:13). Steer and Veness followed in 81st(33:20) and 83rdplace (33:25) respectively. This was Vicky’s debut in the Midlands league and despite tough conditions got an excellent result.

Rebecca Boulton, Bethan Hopton, Nat Lovekin and Amanda Pill completed the squad.

With the course fully churned up by the ladies, the men set off on their 3 lap course. Chris Driskell ran well and worked his way through the field to finish an excellent 51stplace in a time of 43:11 . The 2ndscoring strider was Joe Maddocks who showed great improvement, finishing in 109thplace in 45:53. Maddocks was closely followed by Rich Shardlow, who despite running through an injury managed a solid 121st place in 46:29. Jon Howes (138th46:56),JJ Wilson (159th47:50) and Andrew Paterson (231st 52:42) completed the scoring six.
